Discover the transformative journey that unfolded when I embarked on a 30-minute daily running routine.

Even at 31 years old, plagued by persistent back pains from scoliosis, regular migraines, irregular periods, and overwhelming fatigue, I found myself making excuses to evade physical activity. Little did I know that this seemingly simple change would revolutionize my lifestyle. In this article, I will share how these regular runs not only helped me overcome these hurdles but also have the potential to reshape your life in a similar way. If I can undergo such a remarkable transformation, so can you – join me in exploring the incredible power of 30 minutes of running.

Running became part of my lifestyle about 6 years ago. When I first started to run, I knew nothing about this sport, I had no proper running shoes and no proper running clothes.

All I wanted was to get rid of the daily fatigue, sleep better and wake up without the upper back pains. My daily exercise were: walking to and from the kids' school and the walk to the office which were about 2 km altogether. On the weekends I did also run behind kids' bicycles and scooter the catch them if they fall, and push the stroller for 1 hour each Saturday while my oldest daughter was swimming. Not to mention the daily hoovering, furniture dust collection, dishwashing, and all the rest of the chores. You would say there is enough exercise, and so many of my friends think the same way: that daily chores are just enough exercise for a busy working mum.

5 running benefits

From fortifying my upper back muscles to fostering improved sleep, seamlessly integrating into my bustling schedule, and offering a cost-effective and adaptable fitness solution, running proved to be an indispensable asset.

Don't take my word, try it on yourself.

#1: Improved my upper back muscles

An Australian research which measured the size and liquidity of runners’ spinal disks found, that the disks - of the runners were larger and contained more fluid — indicating more flexibility and less pain — than the disks of the people who did not exercise.

Through consistent running, a remarkable transformation unfolded as my upper back muscles strengthened over time. This positive change has translated into a pain-free reality, effectively alleviating the back discomfort I once experienced due to scoliosis.

#2: Better sleep

Why did the insomniac take up running? They heard it's the only race where everyone wins – a good night's sleep!

Engaging in regular running can significantly enhance the quality of your sleep. Studies have shown that aerobic exercise like running can help you fall asleep faster, achieve deeper sleep, and reduce the frequency of sleep disturbances. When you run, your body releases endorphins, which not only boost your mood but also contribute to a more restful slumber. The increase in body temperature during exercise followed by a subsequent cooldown can mimic the natural drop in body temperature that occurs before sleep, signaling to your body that it's time to wind down.

#3: Fits into a busy schedule

Embracing a natural beauty and healthy lifestyle goes hand in hand with finding fitness routines that harmonise with our modern lives. Imagine being a dedicated professional and a nurturing parent to two beautiful souls – that's my journey!

In my case, 30 minutes of daily running became the ideal fitness solution, seamlessly integrating into my busy routine. It took a couple of months to slowly build the necessary endurance, but now, I conquer 5 kilometres in a brisk 28 minutes.

Considering a 7-minute pre-run warm-up and an equally vital 7-minute post-run cool-down, my overall running time neatly totals to around 45 minutes – mirroring the precious duration of a lunch break.

#4: It's free and flexible

No joining fees, no subscription, no notice period or checking ahead the availability of the classes, it's free and flexible! The only thing to consider is to have about 2 hours passed since the last meal.

#5: Stimulate your brain

The great thing about running is that it doesn't require a lot of brain power. Once you convince yourself to move, your mind is free to focus on other things. Combining these workouts with his audio books will help you reach your daily workout goals while stimulating your mind.

There's nothing wrong with listening to audiobooks while working out, as long as it doesn't interfere with your attention too much to keep you from doing the exercise right..

So, as the rhythm of my running steps intertwines with the symphony of my bustling life, I've not only discovered a pathway to wellness but also an invigorating dance between the roles I cherish most.
